When you are drafted in the first round, especially in the top ten you are expected to become a household name pretty quickly unless you get drafted by the Islanders (Tavares the obvious exception). So while Okposo who was picked 7th overall in 2006 has not blossomed into a top tier talent he has started to come on strong this season. Since Christmas he has only been held off the score sheet 3 times in 16 games and has piled up 6 goals and 8 assists in that span. 14 points in 16 games is not exactly a Joe Thornton circa 05-06 pace but is isn’t Gomez circa the last calendar year pace either.

The Islanders aren’t tearing up the league but they have at least earned some respect by not being the last place team in the league like they have been for what feels like a century. As hard as it is to believe they were the first team this season to have three players top the 40 point plateau two of which have been Okposo’s linemates the last 10 games (Tavares and Moulson). The three have found chemistry and it doesn’t look like they are showing any signs of cooling off in the near future. So grab him off the waiver wire (13% owned) and bolster your right side.
