Last night, Niemi posted a 34 save shutout against the Blackhawks putting the Sharks just two points out of top spot in the west. After major shake ups in the off season, Niemi and the sharks have found their stride winning four in a row and going 7-2-1 in their last ten. In honor of Niemi’s first shutout of the season, I am happy to provide you with this gem from game 5 of last years second round series between the Sharks and Wings. Staring at a wide open cage, Jonathan Ericsson throws the puck on net only to have it snatched out the air by a sprawling Niemi. Getting a save like this from your goaltender early in a hockey game will fire up the guys in front of him, the sharks went on to win the game 5-2 and later took the series in 7 games.
