Wayne Gretzky St. Louis Blues Jersey

Posted by on February 2

This jersey belongs to Scott Josey of Brantford, Ontario.

#99 Wayne Gretzky St. Louis Blues Away Jersey.

“On February 27th, 1996, Wayne Gretzky was traded by the L.A. Kings to the St. Louis Blues in exchange for Roman Vopat, Craig Johnson, Patrice Tardif, St. Louis’s 1996 fifth round draft pick, and 1997 first round draft pick. The trade came after Gretzky was reportedly unhappy in L.A. as the Kings were struggling to reach the playoffs. The trade was requested by Gretzky for a fresh start.

“The Great One” was immediately named captain of the Blues. Then captain Shane Corson gave up the captaincy to Gretzky at the press conference introducing Gretzky to the St. Louis media.

The Blues had hoped that Gretzky and sniper Brett Hull would develop into a dynamic duo, but they never seemed to find chemistry. Gretzky only played 31 games for the Blues during the regular season and two rounds of the playoffs. Gretzky had 37 points in the 31 games with the Blues, but decided to reject the Blues’ three-year $15 million contract offer.

Gretzky signed a two-year $8 million contract (plus incentives) with the New York Rangers in the off season to join former Oilers teammate Mark Messier.”

Stay tuned this week for more Gretzky jerseys!

Thanks to Scott for sending in his Gretzky collection!
